Northwest U.S.

Plainly spoken

Northwest U.S.

Postby Th0rn » Sat 31. Jan 2009, 19:00

I have been setting up games daily for the past two weeks waiting for anyone. I have only seen one person 500 miles away during this time.
I am starting to lose hope about this app. It seems as though if anyone wants to play and there is not a game already in progress people will just exit the app and forget about for a while, do this two or three times people will stop trying.

If anyone wants to drop me a line to set up a game in the Northwest, find me at my google email at ThorneIndustries.

Giving Up

Postby Th0rn » Thu 5. Feb 2009, 21:56

I have been continously attempting games and cannot set anything up for the past month. I am officially giving up on this application and writing WIRED magazine, they should have tested this game for more than 5 minutes before writing good reviews about it. I have gotten several emails from people thousands of miles away, I am not alone. Good Bye Joyity.

I'm sorry that you had a hard time finding fellow players in the Northwest US. We are aware of that issue and we are working on it.

As the G1 currently is the only mobile supported by our application you can only play with other G1 owners. Also the number is increasing it is a bit unlikely to find other players by incident. So what I suggest is to schedule games for several days in advance so other players are able to join.

And we are of course working hard on increasing the user base. There will be an iPhone 3G version available within the next months. We are also developing a mobile Java (J2ME) version of the application. Once we are done almost everyone with an up to date phone, a GPS device built in or attached to the phone and a suitable mobile data plan will be able to enjoy playing JOYity.

And, last but not least, we are developing games that can be played as a single player with virtual hunters trying to catch you (a kind of augmented reality, so the hunters are virtual but you have to run in reality to hide), so even if you do not find fellow players you can have a lot of fun with JOYity.

I think the guys at Wired saw the potential of the game, and this is huge.

I think that the majority of users on JOYity are finding this to be the case.

But as the G1 is the only available platform, this was always going to be the initial problem at this stage.

As Andreas says the iPhone version is in production, as is the J2ME. Dedicated users can only wait at this stage. Or like me, be proactive and explore the game developer side of JOYity so that when it rolls out to the iPhone the game content available will have people hooked... forever.

Long live JOYity!
